Air Exhaust Heat Pumps

Efficient Exhaust Air Heat Pump Design & Installation

At Enviro-Heat NW, we install air exhaust heat pump systems across the North West — an efficient renewable heating solution that harnesses warm indoor air to heat your home and hot water. Ideal for well-insulated properties, this technology makes the most of the heat that would otherwise be wasted.

With over 18 years’ experience in renewable energy, we design and install bespoke exhaust air heat pump systems tailored to your building, usage and comfort goals. Every system is designed in-house and installed by our qualified engineers for peak performance and long-term savings.

How Air Exhaust Heat Pumps Work

Air exhaust heat pumps capture usable heat from the air already being removed from your property — for example from bathrooms, kitchens and utility areas — and transfer it back into your heating and hot water system.

1. Extracting Warm Indoor Air

Warm used air is drawn from your internal ventilation or ductwork system.

2. Heat Transfer

The system removes heat from the extracted air and transfers it into the heat pump circuit. The heat pump then boosts the temperature and transfers it into your domestic hot water cylinder and heating system.

3. Efficient Heating Delivery

The recovered heat can be used through underfloor heating (ideal) or radiators to provide comfortable warmth throughout your home.
Exhaust systems can also operate with a cylinder immersion heater to top up hot water when needed, ensuring both heating and hot water demands are met effectively.

Key Benefits of Air Exhaust Heat Pumps

Maximises Heat That Would Be Lost
By recovering heat from air that would otherwise be vented outside, these systems reduce wasted energy and boost overall efficiency.

Lower Running Costs
Air exhaust heat pumps can deliver multiple units of heat for each unit of electrical energy consumed — often 3× the output of the input — meaning lower ongoing energy bills compared to non-renewable systems.

Space-Saving & No Outdoor Unit Required
Unlike conventional air-source or ground-source heat pumps, exhaust air systems do not need large external units or groundworks, making them ideal for homes with limited outdoor space.

Reduced Environmental Impact
By using existing building air, these systems make efficient use of renewable heat and help reduce your carbon footprint.

Integrated Ventilation Functionality
Exhaust systems work in harmony with mechanical ventilation, ensuring a healthy home environment while simultaneously capturing heat for reuse.

Cross-Technology Integration

Air exhaust heat pumps can form part of a wider renewable heating ecosystem:

  • Underfloor Heating — optimum partner due to the lower operating temperatures of exhaust heat systems.
  • Solar PV & Battery Storage — power your heat pump with self-generated electricity for even lower running costs.
  • Hybrid Heating Systems — where required, conventional boilers or immersion heaters can support peak hot water demand.

By integrating multiple technologies, you get a more efficient, flexible and future-ready home heating system.
